Name: Thomas Cromwell
Birth Date and Place: c. 1485, Putney, nr London, England
Age: 48 (circa 1533)
Parents: Walter Cromwell and Joan Meverelle
Hair Color and Style: Short black curls
Eye Color: Gray
Family: Elizabeth Wykes Cromwell, two daughters (all three died during the Sweating Sickness 1527/28), Gregory Cromwell, Elizabeth Seymour (later his daughter-in-law)
Important Events: He was often beaten as a child by his father (especially if he was drunk), grew up rough on the streets, he fled England and became mercenary / soldier in the French army. He escaped the battlefield and then travelled through Europe. His teacher was life itself.
The loss of his daughters and wife made him a Protestant and extremely protective of his son. He also supported (maybe secretly) Katherine of Aragon and her daughter Mary after Katherine was divorced. He didn’t really like Anne Boleyn but due to the fact that the king loved her and she could play an important role (because of her faith) in his plans, he tried to get along with her. All of his experiences during his life made him wise and a good statesman, and by that it can be argued it made him cold and calculating.
Religion: Protestant (often mistaken as Lutheran)
Friends: Wolsey, Crammer, Wyatt, Rich, Katherine of Aragon (more or less)
Enemies: Bishop Gardiner, William Brereton, The Howards and others who opposed him
Bad Habits and Personality: A workaholic, ruthless, ambitious, methodical, detached and calculating. Appears to do whatever will get him ahead, no matter who he has to pull down or kill to get there. He does everything what the king wants without questioning it and no matter what it will cost.
Good Habits and Personality: Effective and efficient in government. He was a kind master, and a staunch friend. He was not vindictive, and his atrocious acts were done in no private quarrel, but in what he conceived to be the interests of his master and the state. He hates war and knows him to be prevented and he is also a supporter of the Arts. Loving, especially to members of his family.
Motivation: Safeguarding his family, Reformation of the medieval Tudor state
